Duration: 45 minutes

Experience Ecuador's world-famous fine aroma cacao in Quito's Historic Center with hands-on chocolate making, tastings, cacao traditions, and an unforgettable cultural journey.

Overview

Discover the fascinating world of Ecuadorian cacao through a unique sensory and tasting experience in the traditional La Loma Grande neighborhood, nestled within Quito’s Historic Center. Our experience is located on Rocafuerte Street, a historic street widely known by Quiteños as “La Mama Cuchara” because of its distinctive shape, resembling a large spoon and extending toward the Mejía Monument, an important landmark for the people of Quito. This special location allows you to experience not only the world of Ecuadorian cacao but also a meaningful part of Quito’s history, identity, and local culture. Ecuador is considered the cradle of cacao. Archaeological evidence found in the Ecuadorian Amazon reveals traces of cacao dating back approximately 5,500 years, making this land one of the earliest known places where cacao was used by ancient cultures. This remarkable history makes Ecuador an essential destination for discovering the origins and heritage of this extraordinary fruit. During this immersive journey, you’ll uncover the origins of Ecuador’s world-renowned fine aroma cacao, explore its rich cultural heritage, and witness the artisanal process of transforming cacao beans into exquisite chocolate. Throughout the experience, you’ll be accompanied by a Cacao Master with lifelong experience in the world of cacao. Having been involved with cacao since childhood, he brings deep knowledge of Ecuadorian cacao, its traditions, cultivation, and chocolate-making process, sharing personal insights and stories that make the experience even more authentic and meaningful. The experience includes a relaxing cacao aromatherapy session, a tasting of fresh cacao mucilage straight from the pod, a live demonstration of the traditional bean-to-bar chocolate-making process, and a delicious chocolate fondue served with marshmallows. You'll also enjoy a tasting of traditional Ecuadorian hot chocolate—known as the "Drink of the Gods"—followed by artisanal cacao beer and cacao liqueur to conclude this unforgettable experience.
